How to avoid stretch marks after giving birth?

Dear Mom,

Do you also struggle with stretch marks during and after childbirth? Many women notice the fine stripes just after pregnancy, when they look at their body perhaps a little more critically again and the skin is to contract or pull again. While almost every mom sooner or later the unloved stretch marks appear during pregnancy, there is a lot of advice, but very little really helps here to combat. So here I clarify all the important questions and give you helpful tips. 😊

Stretch marks after childbirth

Stretch marks after childbirth are common. Most of the time, they don’t become visible until the third trimester. However, some mamas-to-be suffer from the fine stripes as early as the 20th week. Overall, they develop in about 50 to 90% of mamas-to-be, but only a small percentage know what to do after birth to tighten the skin again. Because one thing is certain. The unwanted stretch marks are those of a loss of elasticity, as well as a thinning of the lower layer of the skin. Consequently, they appear when the skin expands quickly and is overstretched.

Did you know that stretch marks can have many origins besides pregnancy? Namely, they can also appear due to excessive weight training, growth during puberty, or severe weight fluctuations.

What to do against stretch marks after pregnancy?

A healthy lifestyle always helps to keep your skin tight and healthy. This includes staying hydrated, eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise. At Move it Mama you can find an exercise plan adapted to your needs for your particular week before and after birth. But also massages can help to minimize stretch marks, plucking massages are recommended especially after birth. I myself find them super, but often there is not enough time. If you can somehow, take at least a few minutes a day for it!

My tip: In addition, it can help not only to regularly apply cream to the most affected areas, but also to promote regeneration with special oils. For me, CELLAGON Shape Perfection Oil is a faithful companion, especially now after my second pregnancy.

So as during pregnancy also applies after pregnancy: oil, oil, oil!!!

How to get firm skin after pregnancy?

Massages, but also peelings stimulate the blood circulation of the skin and thus have a very positive effect on the tightening of the skin. Peelings under the shower pep up your skin and circular movements with a massage glove or a brush strengthen this effect. It also removes dead skin cells.

Regular alternating showers, plucking massages and vigorous rubbing with a pimple brush can work wonders.

How long does the Linea Nigra remain after birth?

The first time the linea nigra, a vertical, line-shaped dark discoloration of the median abdominal skin – usually appears from the 15th week of pregnancy.  The reason for the line is due to pregnancy hormones and is different for each mama-to-be. It does not occur in every woman and can be pronounced differently in different pregnancies. Once your hormone levels stabilize after pregnancy, the linea nigra often fades as well. However, this process can take weeks or even months.

In which pregnancy week do stretch marks appear?

Some mamas-to-be get stretch marks as early as during the second trimester. Others do not get them until the 30th week of pregnancy, and still others do not notice that they have stretch marks until the last weeks of the third trimester. In about 10-50% of moms-to-be, they don’t even appear at all.

What can I do to avoid getting stretch marks?

Exercise in the fresh air and targeted sports during pregnancy ensure good blood circulation in the skin. Consequently, its elasticity is increased and you become less prone to stretch marks.

My tip: Start as early as possible with twice-daily creaming, preferably with special pregnancy oils. In addition, a healthy weight gain helps, that is, at the normal rate of pregnancy, regular exercise sessions that particularly “work” these areas of the body and a balanced diet.

Did you know that a balanced diet and exercise also prevent excessive weight gain during pregnancy?

How do you get a firm abdomen again after giving birth?

Especially in the abdominal area, sufficient exercise is the be-all and end-all for firm skin. The right sporting exercises and a well-dosed cardio workout not only help to strengthen your muscles and connective tissue, but also help you to relax and stay healthy.

I hope that this knowledge will help you to avoid stretch marks as a mom-to-be and to quickly say goodbye to them postnatally or to reduce them.

The fact is, unfortunately, that it’s very conditional: one woman is more prone to stretch marks than the other… If, unfortunately, you belong to the first group, always remember that you gave birth to a baby and those little stripes are just a little reminder. So actually you can be proud of it, because you gave a new life! And pregnancies and births are probably the most beautiful changes and events in our lives.

I myself relied on the recommended tips in both pregnancies and it worked for me. Whether it is also due to the genes, I can not judge. But I hope I can motivate you to integrate one or the other tip into your everyday life as a mom in the fight against the unloved stretch marks.

As is so often the case, a balanced fitness program and healthy diet are the little secret to fighting them! In this case, together with massages and oils!!!
