Hypnobirthing, exercise, nutrition – the perfect mama mix

This is a guest article by Julia Neiss. She is 38 years young and mommy of 5 girls. Julia made her dream a reality and founded her own company “Bauchgefühl” last year and offers hypnobirthing courses. Besides she trains regularly with the MOVE IT MAMA app. Today she will tell you about her experiences …

The right preparation for birth is the be-all and end-all!

Pregnancy is one of the most fulfilling and beautiful times in the life of a woman and a man. Therefore, an exceptional birth preparation course is the greatest gift you can give to expectant parents.

Just imagine – soon it will be your dream wedding. Your big day – one of the biggest days of your life. Even as a child you dreamed of this day. Everything is organized. You have booked the coolest band, the decoration is magical, your dress is beautiful, all the dear people who are important to you travel from all over the world to spend this day with you. The catering is ready, cocktails are chilled and the weather is perfect for this day. And now imagine – you are lying in bed with a fever of 40 degrees! What happened there? You have created the ideal conditions but one thing becomes clear to you. If your body is not ready then it will not be a cool party! And it is the same with the birth. The birth should be lovingly planned: with information, knowledge and the right conditions. But don’t forget the most important preparation:

Your mental and physical condition

To create the basic physical conditions, I recommend the app “MIM – MOVE IT MAMA” to my participants. I myself have used the app during my last two of five pregnancies. The combination of stretching, strength, and cardio helped myself have a complication-free and pain-free pregnancy.

In addition, diet also plays a big role. Refined sugar and white flour should be avoided at all costs during pregnancy. Several pregnancy complaints can be avoided.

For the mental component, HypnoBirthing is for me personally the perfect birth preparation, which prepares you and your partner not only physically, but especially mentally, for the birth of your baby. HypnoBirthing was named after the method of Marie Mongan (HypnoBirthing) method. Beyond the contents of a conventional birth preparation course, hypnosis is learned for relaxation and pain reduction.

Staying positive with HypnoBirthing

A positive mindset is super important and influences a lot. For me as a course instructor, it is important that the parents have a positive attitude towards the topic of birth and prepare for the birth with joy.

Our brain is built in such a way that it learns through repetition. Everything learned is stored in the subconscious. Thus, negative images of births through films, stories or own experiences can be completely unconsciously anchored and that would be absolutely counterproductive for the birth.

HypnoBirthing explains the functioning of the brain and you learn how to program your subconscious. That you can have a natural, self-determined birth.  I find it very nice that the partners are allowed to be present and supportive during the preparation. It makes a lot of sense if your partner also gets an overview of what happens in your body during birth and gets an idea of what to expect. He learns to pamper and support his wife with all his senses and thus contributes to the birth being the most wonderful event you will ever experience as a couple.

HypnoBirthing – a birth without pain?

I can’t promise you that – but I can show you a way to a gentle birth. Already the English doctor Dr. Dick- Read caused a sensation with his theory in 1933. In his book “Becoming a mother without pain” he talks about the fact that the pain of childbirth is related to fear and the tension that goes along with it. He says, “all natural processes in the body are painless and childbirth is no exception.” Hormonally, this theory can be proven because endorphins and oxytocin are powerful pain inhibitors. High levels of these hormones during labor cause the pain receptors in the body to be blocked and the brain does not receive the pain signal or perceive it as a different sensation ( e.g., pressure or pulling ).

The big problem is that adrenaline and stress hormones restrict the endorphins and oxytocin and thus increase the pain. So we have to learn to release as much endorphin and oxytocin as possible to get back to the natural flow of a gentle birth. This is exactly what can be learned and what is fantastic about the techniques of hypnosis – this is why I fall in love with the world of HypnoBirthing every day.

But above all, mommy sports play a crucial role at this point because according to a study by the German Sports University in Cologne, athletic women who exercise regularly during pregnancy have less pain during childbirth. Therefore, for me it is: the mix makes the difference! HypnoBirthing and MOVE IT MAMA training lay the ground for a pleasant pregnancy and birth and this has definitely been confirmed for me personally.

Have fun trying it out!
