First Christmas with Baby

Christmas is about spending cozy and relaxing time with the family. New moms are very excited about the very first Christmas with a baby, especially if it’s the first child everything is very exciting and of course you want everything to be perfect. But also with the second darling (as in my situation) the anticipation of the first Christmas together is huge. To make the holidays a beautiful memory and not end in chaos I have a few tips for you today. 🙂

5 tips for a beautiful first Christmas with baby

1.Do not rush or panic

I know it myself. Everything has to be perfect, but you have to do it soon enough and calmly. Because if you are hectic and stressed, your baby will feel it immediately, even if it is still so small. Therefore, take your time with the preparations, so your baby and all other family members will feel more comfortable.

2.Communicate with your partner

You may have a clear idea of how the first Christmas with baby should look like. But don’t forget to include your partner in all the euphoria. It is important that both your wishes are taken into account and compromises are made. That way, everyone feels comfortable. Now you could start your first very personal traditions or continue the ones from your own childhood…Really crazy, a whole new chapter of your life. But so exciting and beautiful!

My Christmas experience:
We celebrated the very first Christmas with my first baby (Cooper) at my parents' house and followed their Christmas traditions. This time it will be a little different because we are celebrating just with four of us and of course we want to set up something of our own. At lunchtime we have planned to go to a Christmas play (Something like that appeals to us very much as my husband and I are both artists). We also plan to go to a Christmas mass these days.
American traditions and customs play an important role for us as well. We can't decide if Santa Claus or the ``Christ Child`` should come! But maybe both will. 🙂 I am really curious how Dexton will feel about the whole spectacle.

3.Baby equipment check

Check that you have all the baby essentials in stock, such as diapers and wet wipes, baby creme etc. Most supermarkets are closed on the holidays so stock up beforehand.

4.Prepare a simple Christmas menu

Choose a simple meal this year, there are a lot of super simple delicious dishes that don’t require too much time in the kitchen. If you can not do without it, be sure to get help from partner, grandma, grandpa and divide the tasks among you well. Christmas is supposed to be relaxing and restful and by no means the opposite. 🙂

5.The last and most important tip: don’t expect too much!

Of course, you want your first Christmas to be a perfect and beautiful experience. But such holidays often cause unwanted stress or arguments (who doesn’t know it). Your baby doesn’t understand much of the routine yet anyway, so don’t make too many plans and don’t overwhelm yourself. It can also be that your baby has a really goofy day and doesn’t feel like celebrating at all. But that’s not a bad thing, because for him it’s just a day like any other…

6.Extra tip for siblings

Involve your older child, maybe he can help you and briefly watch his little sibling or play with him while mom and dad prepare Christmas dinner.

What is the perfect Christmas present for my Baby?

That’ s probably the question of all questions. What is a newborn baby excited about? Here, it’s usually the packaging that counts more than the gift. The nice thing is that your baby still has absolutely no expectations, so it will certainly be happy about every little thing or doesn’t understand at all what is going on. Here are a few inspirations for you…

Ideas for Christmas gifts for a baby:

 • a useful gift (e.g. new booties or a new cap, a water bottle, a bib, etc.)
 • a nice baby toy (e.g. small cuddly toy, rattle, small wooden toy)
 • educational toys, these are especially useful for the little one in the future
 • a cute Christmas baby outfit, which you can directly put on the little one with a pointed hat or reindeer ears

Remember one thing, a baby never grumbles about gifts, but it may not show the joy you had hoped for. Please don’t let this bother you, because your little treasure will be happier when he sees that mommy and daddy are doing well by giving him a big smile. That’s all it takes to be happy…

My baby gift:
Honestly, I can not even remember what that was the gift to Cooper at the time, I only know that it was a wonderful Christmas. Especially with a baby, the magic of Christmas is doubly wonderful. Dexton's first gift will be a ``Mobile`` toy and a play rug. But the most important thing is really the time together. The two of them love singing and music (maybe it's in the genes :-)). The bottom line is that a baby is all about the love and affection he gets. Cooper, for example, only understood the whole thing when he was 3 years old. I am really looking forward to our first Christmas as a foursome!

Tip: Let the older sibling unwrap the presents, it's more fun for the little ones that way.
